S-MARK Certification

Home - S-MARK Certification

According to Resolution 92/98 which came into effect in 1998, Argentina implements the mandatory S-Mark certification for electronic and electrical equipment with an input voltage within the range of 50-1000Vac for alternating current or 50-1500Vdc for direct current. This resolution divides products into 4 groups, and the implementation is carried out step by step starting from 2001. By August 1, 2004, all products must obtain the S-Mark certification before they can enter the Argentine market. Argentina is a member country of the CB system, and CB certificates and reports are recognized, which can save a lot of trouble of repeated testing and sending samples. The Argentine S-Mark safety certification does not require factory inspection arrangements. The applicant should provide a nameplate in Spanish (including safety warning marks) and a user manual. The logo of the certification body should be added next to the S-Mark logo.

Technical Information of S-MARK Certification

1. The voltage in Argentina is AC220V/50Hz.

2. There are two types of plugs, namely Class I with grounding and Class II without grounding.

3. The plug of the power cord should have the S-Mark verification of IRAM or TUV Argentina.

4. There are 3 different types of plugs in Argentina:
<250V/10A Class I (IRAM 2073 standard)
<250V/20A Class I (IRAM 2073 standard)
<250V/10A Class II (IRAM 2063 standard)

S-MARK Certification Procedure
The normalization procedure is a number of necessary measures taken to make the product immediately available in the Argentine market.
The following are some ways to bring the product to the market through the "normalization procedure":
·Install a suitable power cord set.
·Modify the power cord set into a qualified power cord set.
·Modify the power plug into a qualified Argentine plug.
·Attach the Argentine S-Mark logo/label.
Regarding the differences of imported products, the assembly situation can refer to the following operation methods:

1. Products with power sockets
For products using an attached power cord set, the applicant can decide by themselves whether to attach the power cord set when importing the products into Argentina. If the power cord is not attached, it must be mentioned in the test report that the power cord set has not been evaluated, and it will also be indicated on the certificate. If the power cord set is attached in Argentina, it is part of the certification. TÜV Rheinland Argentina will adopt the "normalization procedure" and go to the warehouse where the power plugs are replaced to conduct a simplified factory inspection.

2. Products with fixed power cords
If the fixed power plug attached to the product imported into Argentina does not pass the safety regulations approval in Argentina, the local seller or importer must replace it with a plug approved by the Argentine certification unit. TÜV Rheinland will conduct a simplified factory inspection before issuing the certificate.

3. Products without the S-Mark logo or the correct product label
The S-Mark logo can be attached as soon as the product arrives in Argentina but before it is put on the market for sale. TÜV Rheinland will conduct a simplified factory inspection before issuing the certificate.
