CE Testing and Certification for Batteries
The CE certification is a safety mark certification and is regarded as a passport for manufacturers to open and enter the European market. Any product affixed with the CE mark can be sold within the member states of the European Union without having to meet the requirements of each individual member state, thus achieving the free circulation of goods within the scope of the EU member states. A product affixed with the CE mark complies with the main requirements specified in the relevant European directives and is used to confirm that the product has passed the corresponding conformity assessment procedures and the manufacturer's declaration of conformity. However, the CE mark affixed to batteries cannot be understood in the same way.

The main factors affecting the safety performance of lithium-ion batteries include: the thermal stability of the electrode materials, the thermal stability of the electrolyte composition, the ratio of the positive and negative electrode materials, and the battery structure, etc. Structurally, a lithium-ion battery can be divided into three parts: the battery core, auxiliary parts such as the protection circuit, and the battery casing. The safety of the battery mainly depends on the battery core, and the reason why the CE mark is affixed to the battery is mainly that the electronic components and printed circuit boards (PCB) in the auxiliary parts of the battery need to meet the requirements of the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive (EMCD). But in fact, the electromagnetic radiation generated by these auxiliary parts in the battery is quite small and can basically meet the requirements of the EMCD. Therefore, the affixing of the CE mark on the battery only indicates that the auxiliary parts in the battery meet the requirements of the EMCD, and does not mean that the battery meets the relevant safety requirements.

However, electrical products entering the European Union (such as mobile phones, electric toys, power tools, etc.) need to meet the requirements of the EU New Approach Directives and be affixed with the CE mark. As a component of many end products (such as mobile phones, electric toys, etc.), the safety of the battery needs to be considered in combination with these end products. Therefore, many end product customers, out of consideration for the safety of their own products, require that their components, preferably, should also be affixed with the CE mark, so that their products can better meet the requirements of the relevant directives.

Therefore, if the battery products of an export enterprise can meet the requirements of the EMCD directive and be affixed with the CE mark, it will enhance the competitiveness of their products in the market and enable the enterprise to gain a larger market share.
